You’re like twenty-two girls in one
And none of them know what they’re runnin’ from
Was it just too far to fall?
For a little paper doll
Tomorrow is my last day of high school and then I graduate on Friday. Wow, these past five years went by so fast. 🎓
We aren’t the typical fan base.
Yes, we are Canadian, much like the other seven franchises in the league.
Yet, we are the Canadian joke. Why?
Because out of Edmonton, Calgary, Montréal, Toronto, Winnipeg and Ottawa, only three franchises have not won a cup.
Winnipeg and Ottawa, combine for 35 years of NHL service.
The Canucks, have 43 years of NHL service. Alone.
We have lost two Game 7’s in the finals.
One, on home ice.
It hurts. It isn’t easy loving a team for so long, and having nothing to show for it but some division championships and three consolation banners. It isn’t easy. I know, it isn’t the Chicago Cubs, but it isn’t easy. Only the St. Louis Blues, have spent longer waiting for the holy grail.
Maybe it’s the curse of 1970? For Buffalo hasn’t won a cup either.
Maybe it’s because the road has just never been the easiest, when the Canucks need it to be the most? It’s hard to make that argument, coming off a Presidents Trophy.
I know up to this point, this is just a negative look at how the Canucks are just a laughing stock. No matter what joke we come up with, “No Cup” always trumps it.
But it’s not.
This article, is about the fans.
Its a fan base, full of passion, full of hope and ready to burst with excitement, whenever the time comes. I know, when you think Vancouver you think riots, but that isn’t us. That’s the people who just want to make Vancouver the laughing stock, yet again. The fans, are a family. They are up at 1am on Sunday nights, arguing about the 3rd line vs. the 4th line. They wake up in the morning, first thing they do is take to the internet to see who starts in net.
We love our hockey. It hurts, it sucks. Every year, no matter the team, we hold out that hope that maybe, maybe this year will be the year. But it has never been. And is it this year? That’s yet to be told.
This may just be another chapter, in the lacklustre history of the Vancouver Canucks.
